Discussion after performance
Artist and writer Chantal Faust and theorist Juliette Kristensen join Ruudu Ulas, Anna-Lena Krause, Kyungchan Jung, Eman Khokhar, Kirsty Sim, Veronica Viacava to discuss their experiences of making, sharing and learning online over the last year, with a focus on the notion of digital intimacy. They will discuss their attempts to connect, touch and locate each other through screens, and through their creative practices.
Chantal Faust is an artist and writer whose photographic, painting, video and installation works have been exhibited globally. She has contributed book chapters to contemporary art publications, and regularly writes for academic journals, magazines, and exhibition catalogues. Chantal is the Head of the MA Contemporary Art Practice Programme at the RCA.
Juliette Kristensen is a design researcher, theorist and historian with a background in Philosophy, Cultural Studies and Critical Theory, who works within and through visual and material culture, specialising in the history and theory of technology and media. Collaboration and dialogue are critical elements of her practice, embodied by her work on Art Vapours, an art practice with the film and video artist susan pui san lok on feminism and the everyday in publishing and broadcasting; as one of the ten researchers on The UCL 100 Hours Project; as Assistant Project Manager on Voices in the Visual Arts Oral History Project; and as editor of Journal of Visual Culture.
The discussion is preceded by a performance at 18:00 BST. Performed and developed by Ruudu Ulas and Luis Carr - the digital séance, is an experimental interactive lecture where the boundaries between physical and virtual being are explored through magic.
