Using YouTube videos as an educational tool is not new and has been proven that it can add a lot of value to a course. Tied with benefits, YouTube videos have many inherent problems when shared directly with students.
From interviews, surveys, and online studies, we can conclude that the teacher’s main concern is the inconsistent quality or accuracy issue of YouTube videos. The biggest pain point of students is that they often receive many video links at once, and have trouble finding the explicit intention of the teacher sharing the video.
Those two concerns can be solved by making derivative videos, editing the YouTube videos down to a concise version, but teachers can face multiple challenges in the process of editing YouTube videos. Video editing requires the teacher to invest a lot of time and can add an extra burden to the teacher. More importantly, The current pipeline of editing existing Youtube videos involves many illegal actions.
