Xiang Li
She likes to use various unconventional materials to make her jewellery pieces. Her work is an abstract way to express her emotions and memories. All her work comes from her feelings. She makes mini-sculptures as her jewellery practice.
In her work, she is trying to show the natural texture of things: she wants people to see the natural beauty of objects that are not artificial, and wants to make something from things we already use or do not consider to be accessories. In this way, we can create less waste on our planet but meet people's desire to be beautiful.
Is the value of things decided by the market or by Mother Nature?
Xiang says: is thought an object? We can not see thoughts, but they exist. In Buddhism, something has already become real when you think of it. Also, an idea can become a reality by other people creating it. Thoughts are like those things we can not see, but we possess them, and they can change our quality of life, or at least the emotional quality of life for us. These thoughts are like solid objects bringing us prosperity. We can improve and modify our beliefs, and it is easier than modifying a solid object. A thought is not only an object but also a compelling object, because it can change our emotional quality of life.
So Xiang uses emotion and thoughts as tools to sculpt people’s experiences. Through this comparison, she has found a better way to perceive her experiences. Like reenactment, her stories show the wrongs and twists inside them. She is daring to step away from those bad memories by using natural materials to make sustainable jewellery.
