It is common to understand that the space as something measurable and metric.
Bruno Zevi quotes, “Space … does not consist in the sum of the width, length and height of the structural elements which enclose space, but in the void itself, the enclosed space in which man lives and moves”.
In the context of the interactions between the human body movement and the spaces, we are focusing on the concepts of dynamic and extensive spaces.
My practice mainly explores the relationship between our bodies and the space. I see wearable sculpture as a way to connect our body with the surrounding environment. Therefore, my work requires audience engagement in order to activate. As well, as the audience equally becomes a part of the work. Viewers are expected to ‘lean’ on the artwork or put their arms and legs over, and even just a little gesture such as placing their fingers on a piece creates a unity between the two.
The softness of touch and the concept of safety structure are the elements that are reflected in my work. The shapes of the various parts of the body in the space have also become an indispensable part of my sculpture, because they are the elements I use to establish a connection with the surrounding environment. When all parts of the body are in contact with the walls, ground, and corners in the space, the resulting void constitutes a wearable sculpture. These "voids" are often composed of irregular geometric figures.
