I’m a multidisciplinary/graphic designer working around poetic, semiotics and experience process of communication.

The interdisciplinary study has enabled me to work at the intersection of design between visual art and architecture. My interests in space, technical and body intuition came about the way as a driving force in my practice.

What is the ‘real’? After the expansion of digital space since last year, I’ve questioned myself with the position between physical existence and online life.

My practice explores the distorted subject position between real and fiction through different interpretants, semiotics, and the reading process of communication. At the same time, going online would mean leaving the body behind, and if it is possible to introduce the body as a material oppose to the disembodied figure or acknowledging the body in cyberspace.

This journey is continuous progress, with the discussion of language is not only cognitive but also performative. My work utilized multidisciplinary media, such as sound, voice, film to illustrate the perception of language, which is inspired by philosophy and poet including Mallarme and Wittgenstein. During this exploration, the language boundary of human and non-human beings blurring with the AI-generated text, connected the relationship between language and human beings through comprehensive experience, which tries to get closer to the essence of language in the digital age.

(Re)Poetry is a continuous project which developed from What is a horse? poetry and Reading as a process practice. In this exploring process, I try to reconfigure the poetic or language structure involved with the body – I would like to use the body as the tool to interpret the archive process and different layers of information. Poetry, language and human perception are inseparable, so is it’s possible to present and archive with experiential and performative language?

The drawing represents an action, a process of unpacking language through hand-drawing. Through this experiment, I was trying to compare the similarity between drawing and reading as an ongoing process or experience – with reconfiguring the notation which is an instruction of how to read poetry, as a guide of the reading pitch or intensity. On the other hand, with machine cooperation, the experiment is a performative archive that combines visual communication with the voice experience to discuss how it delivers meaning through human perception.

What is a horse? is a writing program of poetry, based on GPT-2(Generative Pre-trained Transformer 2) language models. It origins from a paradox in Chinese philosophy When a white horse is not a horse, which separates “horse” as a physical shape whereas “white” is a colour. This is a famous language logic dialectic problem, which supposes the horse as a symbol or a concept that could be defined through different content. The horse itself in this paradox shows the ambiguity of language and its definition so that I was trying to use the horse as a dualistic symbol of poetry writing. After training with horse poems, the program could respond to the questions “What is a horse?” and “How to identify a horse?” through a poetic format. The horse as a sign shows the difference between real and imaginary horses in cyberspace during the writing process of the non-human interpretant.

I suppose the horse poetry as semiotic presence introduces a deconstruction of poetry and language with reading and collaboration with the machine. The practice of reading poetries shows how we read in comprehensive aspects, from vision, sound, voice, etc. I’m trying to materialize the process of reading in a performative way and share my experience with the machine through collaborations. Like choreography used in many artworks and my previous practice of body, the sense of human could get closer to the thing. So that the voice – try to get closer to the essence of language, from another perspective than writing. The poetry, which is a concise form of language, how it delivers meaning through the voice rather than silent? And I’m trying to create a landscape that combines visual communication with the voice experience.
