LAMP LEE

Lamp Lee’s work involves transformable materials, technical interactions and philosophy, with the aim to transform sensory experience into wearable art.

She understands fashion as what happens around our bodies, and as a way of expressing our own experience of the world, combining the language of material and structure with the body itself. Her work explores the contradictory juxtaposition of reality and perceptual changes caused by the friction between subjective intention and objective logic.

Reality and the reality we are aware of need a way of communication. So that we can understand the information in this environment. In the process, conflicting situations often occur. From a psychological point of view,We tend to enhance the rationalization of our cognition in a way or another to maintain the internal balance, even eliminate or deny everything that opposes it. In some cases, people would inevitably blindly believing whatever they wanted to believe.

What if we can see and think about the opposite? Would there be a different experience? Will we develop a new way of communication and new behaviours as a response?

As the last work of postgraduate study, REVERSIBLE is a further development from BISTABLE. The position of the work has evolved from designing to a self-debate. I optimized my design theory and material language in the context of 'Homeostasis;' Explored the different perception from the 'internalized consciousness of things' to our 'multi-stable perspective of external observation.'

The sculptural skins I created which were more than mere garments were intricate with an infinite quality that doesn’t have a start or finishing point. The repeated transformations reflect the juxtaposition and division of our sensibility, implying a kind of integrality and the balance between the opposing forces;

'BISTABLE' is an interactive installation and collaborative performance art project with Rieko Whitfield. Continues the idea of absolute contradiction; the movement of opposites will always exist as a natural development. That means we inevitably experience conflicts everywhere. The point is- how we see the balance of things and a "Dynamic" relationship among them; Thereby reducing discomfort and better adapt to our diverse environment. The outcome aims to deliver a sense of harmony by proposing a new way of looking.

 I develop a ‘Diagram’ as my design philosophy in the very beginning- Base on the study of Pessoa’s Esoteric Imagery and the Geometry of Modernism. Explores its connection with modern desire by analyzing geometric forms that recur used as a vehicle of non-representative impulses in visual art and aesthetic texts. Epitomizes the modern devotion to “taxonomy, classification, inventory” and “catalogue”– “The modern quest for order.”

As well "The condition of homeostasis'- which is a theory raised by a neuroscientist called Antonio Damasio in his book 'The Strange Order of Things.' Emphasize how it regulates human physiology within the range that makes possible the survival and the flourishing of life.'
