Having spent my formative years studying dance, my artistic project has naturally inclined towards an investigation of spatiality and representation. I am interested in the politics of desire, and the ways in which this takes form, both physically and psychically. While the body lies at the centre of this enquiry, rather than use it performatively or metaphorically I focus instead on what precedes and acts upon it, and what follows it in consequence; the structures we build in anticipation of the body and the traces it leaves behind.

Much of my work takes the image as a prompt, one that initiates a spatial action or gesture, be it on paper, or through a variety of sculptural procedures. I build abstract, formal structures characterised by a struggle between order and disarray, resolution and transitoriness. In this, photographs of modern and contemporary architecture have served as my principal reference material, buildings seldom ever encountered in person, and so familiar only through reproduction. By reimagining forms found within these photographs, I attempt to grasp the materiality of the image in terms of its affect, pursuing a sculptural language rooted in the visual, on the verge of image and actuality.

Recent works have involved images as another material within my sculptures and installations, drawn from a broader range of sources than architecture alone, revealing other areas of concern intimately involved in my thinking.
