Sevil Fekri is a designer carving novel and challenging approaches to fashion.
Born in Iran and raised in Scandinavia, she studied at Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, and completed her Masters in Fashion Design at Royal College of Art in 2021, where she has been shortlisted for the patent-granting InnovationRCA.
Her industry experience encompasses a wide spectrum. She has assisted Gareth Pugh, working on photoshoot preparation and set assistance at Show Studio; and worked with French artist and performer Olivier Sagazan, executive pattern assistant at Phoebe English and Roland Mouret. She has additionally contributed to handwork and fabrication for Custom Christina Aguilera looks for Gareth Pugh x Virgin Voyages event as well as Custom worn by Niki Minaj for her video Krippy Kush in 2018.
Sevil’s themes are atypical of fashion, encompassing culture and philosophy. Fekri holds a particular interest in cultural identity and the ephemerality of life that all have in common, regardless of where on the map we are placed. Executed with a characteristic austerity, her work glides effortlessly between Art and Design as she explores ideas across disciplines with differing degrees of intensity, whilst staying fluid and considered in her attitude towards the body.
Despite her love of research, it is never a literal interpretation, rather it is absorbed into construction, the process of making and a feeling that is communicated with the audience.
Meticulous research is absorbed into the construction of the pieces. The process of making is communicated to and felt by the audience.
Fekri’s practice acts as an ongoing dialogue, with autobiographical elements woven into her work.
