School of CommunicationInformation Experience Design (MA)
Estimated Duration: 3 hours
Location: Twitch

White Noise is the Royal College of Art - SoC's experimental sound and performance monthly series where students come together to make the air move. The first edition ran in 2017 and the coming edition is already the 32nd edition. Over the years a lot of work has been produced and to celebrate this we will be releasing the first White Noise album presenting works by 12 students and graduates that have been an important part of the event.

For the first time in 17 months White Noise will will take place at a physical location. The venue is HQI, the Rotunda, which has been the host of a couple of editions in the past. Join us for this legendary return to the physical world, expect improvised electronics, songs, soundscapes and speculative sonic fictions.

White Noise was initiated to create a platform for students to come together to share experiences and experiments related to sound. Anyone can participate as long as there’s an element of sound and experiment to the work. It’s an informal open mic type event in which students and staff from all courses can present, perform and share audio related works. Before the current world situation the event mainly focussed on performances, field recordings, new technology and presenting set build instruments. In the past 17 months White Noise was a live audio video streamed event on Twitch, and the coming edition will be both physical and online.

We love having a discussing about a work yet often also just enjoy the experience of sound. White Noise moves from place to place and its participants always vary, yet it’s home is somewhere at the White City Campus where most editions took place.
