Design and Beyond - a discourse between the past , the present and looking beyond into the future.
After a year of great challenges, it is especially uplifting how this years summer show 2021 reflects the intrinsic spirit of the RCA. Difficult times are always a catalyst for innovation.

The future is not a linear path - we have to adapt, reflecting on the achievements of the past and at the same time looking with optimism to the future. Imagining new materials possibly applying craftsmanship we have learnt, in a digital age, with looming paradigm shifts within a new context.

Curator Biography

Dr. Louise Kiesling

Louise Kiesling is Creative Director and owner of Backhausen GmbH (textile mill), before that she was Head of Interior Design at Coop Himmelblau. She has an extensive cross disciplinary design background for over 30 years and has been part of the Jury of the German Design Council for 4 years. Louise has a Mag.art. degree in Fashion from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and a PhD in Vehicle Design from the RCA.
