Statement

A fundamental part of my practice are masks, which I utilise for my mythological as well as social satirical narratives. These masked figures are mostly inspired by various fairytales, pop-cultural references and emojis. The depicted scenarios in my paintings are highlighting society's issue with consumerism, vanity, escapism and temptation.

By observing the constant rise of online activities worldwide, it became more apparent how addictive the screen can be, causing a dependency to use in our everyday. This new obsession can be traced back to the possibility of redefining oneself without commitment. Through this ability, a distorted and desired image is being reflected to the online user affecting their self-perception.

In terms of my process, I am working with multiple layers of oil paint, utilising the negative space to reveal the figures and eventually, I scratch onto the wet surface. This scratching stage goes hand in hand with my more improvised and playful approach.
